23h 14min, jul 4, 1863 y - Vicksburg

Description:

The Battle of Vicksburg came into play after General Ulysses S. Grant has already taken down a confederate force near Jackson. Ulysses S. Grant turned his attention back toward Vicksburg after he had already failed to take the city before. On May 16th, the Union forces completely drove the confederate forces out of Vicksburg after defeating General John C. Pemberton at Champion Hill. This split the confederacy in half and provided tons of strategic advantage for the Union forces. The battle was very important as it showed how effective Grant’s army was and led to the siege of Fort Wagner.
