The Battle of Gettysburg was a short lived major battle in the Civil War. The small town became the site of the massive battle and it came to a huge culmination when the Confederate General E. Lee tried to charge onto the Union army on top of Bunker Hill near the church. The Union held and were able to push back the Confederate forces until they had to retreat again, showing the Union’s effort and ability to overcome the Confederate forces again. This battle was very important because it was the bloodiest battle in the War and led to the battle of Vicksburg.
