jul 1, 1861 - Battle of Bull Run

Description:

The Battle of Bull run was the second battle in the Civil War and was the first one that led to casualties. The Union army marched from Washington D.C. against the Confederate army by the Bull Run river. Fighting raged throughout the day as Confederate forces were pushed way back to Henry Hill. Late in the afternoon, Confederate reinforcements extended and broke the Union right flank. The Confederate army then made the Federal troops completely retreat and were victorious. This was very important as it gave the Confederate army a very big boost and a false hope that this would be a simple war for them, even though it wasn’t. This then led to the ironclad battle in U.S.S Monitor vs. C.S.S. Virginia.
