jun 8, 1925 - Gitlow v New York

Description:

Gitlow vs. New York was the Supreme Court case that questioned the 1st Amendment of the United States Constitution. Gitlow, being a socialist, was arrested for distributing copies of a "left-wing manifesto" that called for the establishment of socialism through strikes and class action of any form. The Supreme Court case was all about whether or not the first amendment applied to states as it did with federal cases and in the end it led to tons of cases on the question of which types of speech were free and which weren’t.
