Teddy Roosevelt became the 26th President of the United States after the current President William McKinley was assassinated. Teddy Roosevelt gained fame after his heroic effort in the Spanish American War with assisting the Rough Riders. He then switched his attention to continuing his political career, Senator Thomas Platt created a scheme that would nominate Teddy Roosevelt for Vice President instead of the actual President and the scheme worked, he became the Vice President of William McKinley until he was assassinated. His Presidency was very effective and was a true republican with progressive reforms at the top of his agenda. He also created the National Park system and used the Sherman Antitrust Act to fight against corruption in companies such as Standard Oil. Roosevelt was shot before running again, but he and William Taft eventually got easily beat by Woodrow Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt’s political career came to a closing end.
