"The House of Burgesses requested that the citizens of Virginia hold a meeting to adopt a set of resolutions that represented the rights of freemen. Washington was appointed as one of seven representative delegates to attend a general meeting in Williamsburg. The Fairfax Resolves, as they were known, were among 'the most detailed, influential, and most radical.'"
