jan 12, 1774 - Intolerable Acts

Description:

After the Boston Tea Party, English parliament passed a number of acts that punished Americans known as the Intolerable Acts. Also known as the Coercive Acts, these acts took away the self-governance rights of the colonies, which angered most colonists, leading to the Revolutionary War not long after. Some of the Acts included were the Boston Port Act, which closed Boston harbor until colonists paid for all of the destroyed tea, the Massachusetts Government Act, which revoked Massachusetts’ charter and brought them under the control of the British government, and the Quartering Act. The Intolerable Acts made tensions between Americans and the British very high, leading to the Revolutionary War.
