President Jefferson bought 828,000 square miles of the Louisiana Territory for around 3 cents an acre (About 15 million dollars). This purchase nearly doubled the size of the United States. The governor of the Mississippi territory accepted Louisiana for the United States. He ended up becoming the governor of the Orleans Territory.Added to timeline:
