John brown led a raid on the federal arsenal at Harper's Ferry, Virginia. Brown wanted to start an armed slave revolt by capturing arms and ammunition. He was captured by Robert E. Lee and his troops. He was tried, convicted, and executed. In Mississippi, this caused panic.
