Description:
The Sugar and Molasses Act was passed in 1764 under this act colonial merchants were required to pay 6 pence per gallon on molasses. The Sugar Act reduced the price of the importation of molasses. It went from 6 pence per gallon to 3 pence per gallon. It also taxed other goods such as sugar, coffee, and wine. The passing of this act caused anger among the colonist, which eventually lead to the Colonial Opposition which later took place in 1764. It angered many colonists that they were being taxed "without representation". They began to boycott and refused to use English goods.
