may 20, 1830 - Indian Removal Act
Description:
This act was signed by President Jackson on May 20th, 1830. Allowing the President to negotiate lands west of the Mississippi led to the removal of many Native American tribes either peacefully or by force. The Cherokee tribe, for example, was forced to walk westward while many died along the way, now known as the “trail of tears.”
