jun 28, 1919 - Treaty of Versailles

Description:

World War I officially ended with the Treaty of Versailles. It was a highly negotiated treaty, especially surrounding the treatment and the amount of blame that they put on Germany. People like Wilson seemed to think that we shouldn’t make them pay for everything, but others thought that we should. It ended up creating the league of nations, which Germany couldn’t join for many years and put most of the cost of the war on Germany as well as taking some of their land and rearranging some of the countries in Europe. It was very harsh on Germany, taking away their ability to build up their military past a certain point, taking their colonies away, and taking away their ability to have certain classes of weapons. Germany signed it, but it was protested by many and eventually the repercussions of this treaty would lead to the rise of Hitler and the start of World War II.
