jan 6, 1920 - 18th Amendment

Description:

The 18th amendment prohibited the “the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors”. This amendment was passed during the prohibition movement and prior to the passing of this law, many states had already made laws that prohibited saloons and the selling or manufacturing of alcohol. It was certified on January 16, 1919 and was put in place on January 16, 1920. But, of course along with this change came resistance and so this caused people not to stop drinking alcohol, but to just do it in secret. It was in effect for the next 13 years before it was repealed in 1933.
