Also known as the "Old Deluder Satan Act", this law was designed to produce citizens who understood the Bible and could thwart Satan's trickery. In addition to this, it required every town of 50+ households to hire a teacher of reading and writing. This law was incredibly important to schools back then because it created the ideas that public education could contribute to the bettering of the country. This law is also important to schools today as it serves as the foundation of which the modern public school is built upon.
