apr 5, 1764 - Road to Revolution: Sugar Act

Description:

In 1764 the British passed an act that the colonies had to pay taxes to the British for them to be able to pay for the French and Indian war in America. It taxed sugar and decreased taxes on molasses in British colonies in America. The colonist responded with boycott and protests. The Sugar Act is important because the Stamp Act builds up on this act and creates more laws about the taxing and leads to another response by the colonists.
