By 1870, the Chinese constituted 25% of the labor force in California. And people started to become worried about the number of Chinese immigrants and their cheaper labor. Therefore the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed, it restricted the immigration to the United States and banned the immigration of unskilled laborers from China.
