The European Commission is responsible for developing the EU's strategy, proposing new policies and laws and manging the EU budget. It also plays a significant role in supporting international development

The commission regularly reports on policies and looks towards more effective solutions for a better future. They come together every 12 months to discuss the strategy for the next year

They work hand-in-hand with the Parliament and Council of the European Union in helping countries implement legislation, proposing new laws, ensuring law is being respected (Court of Justice) and manage the allocation of the EU budget

After every year they see if the goals have been met, and see the results on an EU wide basis. They assess their policies for effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, coherence and EU added value.

The current president of the European Commission is ex-german defence minister Ursula von der Leyen. She is the first female president of the European Commission and was the successor of Jean-Claude Juncker.

Current priorities: Coronavirus Response, Delivering on political priorities and the European Green Deal.
