Description:

This case is one of the most known in the American history, it was a big debate about the civil rights. Dred Scott was an African American slave belonging to John Emerson, they lived in Missouri but later moved to Illinois. In Missouri slavery was legal compared to Illinois that was a free state. As Emerson moved back to Missouri Scott refused to come back, he believed that he was no longer bonded to Emerson and sued him, a case that became a 11 years old case in court. The case ended with Scott losing and him being forced back to slavery. The court ruled that the slaves were not considered to be full citizens of the United State.
