Description:
The cotton gin was an invention that separated cotton seeds from the cotton in a far shorter amount of time than a human could. In 1794, Eli Whitney got a patent for his invention. This advance in technology meant more slaves were wanted. The market value of slaves increased dramatically. This led to the Missouri Compromise, due to growing tensions on the pros and cons of slavery.
