jul 1, 1958 - "Joseph Kraft (CFR), however, tells us in
Harper's of July 1958, that the chief agent in
the formal founding of the Council on Foreign
Relations was "Colonel" House, supported by
such protégés as Walter Lippmann, John
Foster Dulles, Allen Dulles and Christian
Herter. It was House who acted as host for the
Round Table Group, both English and
American, at the key meeting of May 19, 1919,
creation of the CFR."

Description:
"Nice or not, the men who meet at the Council
are indisputably important. The membership
(about 1,200, by invitation only, with women
and foreigners barred) includes the President,
the Secretary of State, the Chairman of the
Atomic Energy Commission, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, the board chairmen of three of the country’s five largest industrial corporations, two of the four richest insurance companies, and two of the three biggest banks, plus the senior partners of two of the three leading Wall Street law firms, the publishers of the two biggest news magazines and of the country’s most influential newspaper, and the presidents of the Big Three in both universities and foundations, as well as a score of other college presidents and a scattering of top scientists and journalists."
