jun 30, 1934 - Night of the Long Knives (30 June 1934)

Description:

Many felt that Ernst Roehm became too powerful and convinced Hitler that he was a threat, leading Hitler to sign a pact with the SA to swear allegiance to him once Roehm was removed. On 30 June 1934, the SS arrested and killed Roehm and other SA leaders as well as political opponents who had angered Hitler. An estimated 400 men were executed and allowed Hitler to consolidate the power of both the SS and SA.
