aug 18, 1920 - Nineteenth Amendment

Description:

The women's rights movement in the United States began with the Seneca Falls convention in 1848. As the suffrage movement began to gain traction, the idea of women voting was torn to shreds in the media, who called women silly and hysteric. After the Civil War, the Fifteenth Amendment divided the suffragist community. Despite the division, they won a major victory in 1869 when the Wyoming Territory granted women the right to vote. Between then and 1920, around half of states gave women the right to vote, and in 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified.
