dec 24, 1767 - Occupation of Boston

Description:

As Americans resisted parliamentary taxes and laws, the British were determined to get the colonists to submit to Royal authority. Lord Hillsborough, the Secretary of State for American Affairs in parliament, depatched General Thomas Gage and 2,000 British soldiers to occupy Boston. In two years, this same occupation would lead to a massacre, which was one of the final straws for the Americans. The colonists were no longer free, and they knew it. Their own Motherland stationed troops in their cities as if they were conquered. The Americans remembered how independent they were during Salutary Neglect, and they wanted that independence back. To regain it, the thirteen colonies eventually rebelled and won their independence by combat.
