jan 2, 1767 - Revenue Act

Description:

Also passed by Charles Townshend in 1767, this act created a custom commissioners' board in Boston and vice-admiralty courts in various colonial cities. Townshend aimed to use parliamentary taxes to finance imperial administration, and therefore undermine American political institutions. Before this string of acts and taxes, American colonies were essentially independent due to Salutary Neglect. Undermining local political institutions infuriated the colonists, giving Americans another reason to revolt for liberty in 1776.
