What it Was: The Sons of Liberty prevented East India Company ships from delivering their cargoes in New York, Charleston, and Philadelphia. In Massachusetts, Royal Governor Hutchinson was determined to land the tea and collect the tax. To counter his plan, artisans and laborers disguised as Indians boarded three ships. They broke open 342 chests of tea and threw them into the harbor.
How it Led to Revolution: The Boston Tea Party marked the colonists' start of the violent part of the Revolution. It was their first try to rebel violently against the government. It was the key event of the Revolution.
