Description:
Over the next 5 years Marshall Plan provided $13.5 billion to 16 countries in Europe. Came through goods and money.
Condition:
Some of the money had to be spent on American goods
Recipients would also have to share their economic information
Truman's idea of containment was to enforce the West and support them while the East faced large economic difficulties after the war.
USA convinced that this would lead to a decrease in Soviet sphere of influence.
Marshall Plan was open to Soviet states also, but they saw this as US imperialism. Czechoslovakia and Hungary were interested in receiving Marshall Aid.
Angered the Soviet Union and led them to walk out of the Paris Peace COnference and setup Cominform.
