The Ẓāhirī (also transliterated as dhahiri, Arabic: ظاهري‎) madhhab or al-Ẓāhirīyyah (Arabic: الظاهرية‎) is a school of Islamic jurisprudence founded by Dawud al-Zahiri in the ninth century.

Dawud bin Ali bin Khalaf al-Zahiri (Arabic: داود بن علي بن خلف الظاهري‎) (c. 815–883/4 CE, 199-269/270 AH)[2] was a Muslim scholar of Islamic law during the Islamic Golden Age, specializing in the fields of hermeneutics, biographical evaluation, and historiography. He is widely regarded as the founder of the Ẓāhirī school of thought (madhab)
