mar 5, 1770 - Boston Massacre

Description:

At this point, Boston had been occupied for almost two years. On March 5, 1770, nine British soldiers fired into a crowd of civilians. Five people were killed. Local Whigs labeled the incident a massacre after the soldiers were exonerated at trial. The colonists saw themselves not only being taxed and oppressed by a Crown across the ocean, but now they also saw their fellow countrymen being killed in the streets. This was pouring gasoline on the fire. Americans started banding together more and more, resisting and undermining British laws more than they ever have since the Seven Years War. The occupation, five dead men, and a corrupt British judicial system that was intended to assert Royal control over the colonists turned into reasons to resist that same control even more. Eventually, this resistance turned physical and became a full-on rebellion in 1776.
