17h 8min, sep 1, 1938 y - Munich Conference

Description:

Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles, having to pay back huge amounts of money and giving away territory to other nations, including the demilitarized zone of Rhineland. Though Hilter wasn’t satisfied with the Treaty and violated various statements made in the Treaty. Britain and France afraid of another huge warfare decided to use a peaceful way to resolve the issues Hitler created in invading parts of Czechslovakia. The Munich conference was thus established to reach a agreement in permitting Germany’s annexation of Czechoslovakia. It was thought as the best solution to avoiding war, but today it is regarded as a failed act which made Germany much more powerful than it should have been. To Czechoslovakia, this conference didn’t help at all, but instead encouraged Germany to make the next move. The nation got annexed by Germany on March 1939. German army divisions invaded Poland despite British and French threats to intervene on the nation’s behalf. Two days later, Chamberlain called for a British declaration of war against Germany. Thus, World War II began, acting as the effect of this conference.
