dec 8, 1941 - Start of Japanese invasion of the Philippines

Description:

Soon after attacking Pearl Harbor, the Japanese started to bomb airfields in the Philippines. Then a few days later, they deployed troops to against American and Philippino opposition. The American and Philippino troops were heavily outnumbered and under the order of General Douglas McArthur retreated back to the Bataan peninsula. There, without reinforcements, they held in total of three months.
Japan lacked resources since Roosevelt placed an Embargo on Japan. The Japanese planned to attack Dutch and British colonies that were rich with resources along with the Philippines. The Philippines was a step to attack Australia and the American mainland, and more land to the Japanese empire.
