Former Virginia slave Dred scott tried to sue the court for his freedom. The case for Dred Scott got to Supreme Court, but then the justices found that he was considered property and didn’t have the rights of a human being. This contributed to the Civil War because The Dred Scott Decision took the power away from the government of how slavery was run because the slaves were viewed as property.
