The Bismark was a state of the art battleship and was supposed to wreak havoc on Allied ships in the middle of the Atlantic and revive Germany's surface fleet. This never ended up happening because a British ship found the battleship and, in an intense battle lost but left the ship crippled and was leaking fuel. it was the found later on and finished off by British aircraft and warships. The German surface navy suffered greatly for it.
