Dr. Aafia entered an arranged marriage to Dr. Amjad Khan, who was coming to the US to practice anesthesiology. They married over the phone while she was in Boston and he was still in Karachi. When he arrived in Boston he didn't even bring any gifts for Dr. Aafia and he just complained about how the family spent money on a small reception that could have been donated to charity instead.
