2h 52min, jan 2, 1393 y - Mongol invasion
Description:
The Mongol invasions began in the 13th century. Timur Lenk’s raid in 1393 almost depopulated Baghdad. As the Mongol armies poured in from the east, they destroyed the precious canals as they laid waste the countryside. The country did not pass completely into the power of the Ottoman Turks until 1638, but Mesopotamia never regained its ancient fertility, wealth, and splendor.
