Description:
Early in the summer of 1776 after many hard fought battles, the Continental Congress decided to urge the colonies to get together an official declaration of their independence from the British. They got together a committee and Thomas Jefferson was decided to be the person to write the final draft where he wrote about the certain unalienable rights of the people, which did not include slaves or women at the time. On July 2, 1776 it was voted unanimously and the American colonies were free and on July 4, 1776 they adopted the Declaration of Independence.
