With General Dwight D. Eisenhower leading them, the American troops spill into Algeria. As a result, the opposing German-led Afrika Korps had to retreat to Italy to escape being flanked by American and British soldiers.

By May of 1943, the Allies now controlled Northern Africa, putting France at ease once the threat of an impending attack from the south was nullified.
