jan 1, 1692 - Salem Witch Trials
Description:
The Salem Witch Trials began in 1692 when a group of girls began experiencing symptoms such as shaking, uncontrollable screaming, and more. It was determined that the girls had been possessed and the girls began to accuse several of their neighbors. After the first trial, in which one of the three defendants pleaded guilty and claimed she wasn't working alone, people continued to accuse others, be accused themselves, and/or be put on trial. The trials ended early in 1693 and the Governor of Massachusetts, Governor Phips, pardoned those who had been imprisoned and the trials were declared unlawful.
