mar 9, 1563 - Tycho Brahe observes a conjunction

Description:

Tycho rejected Copernicus' model for his own, where the sun and moon orbit the earth and the other planets orbit the sun. The stationary earth helped him avoid controversy.

A stellar parallax had not yet been observed and so he knew either the earth was stationary or the stars were much further away.

In 1563, he observed a conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn, where they are in a straight line with the earth and so appear to be in the same place in the sky. He had predicted this using the Copernican model, but it was off by a few days.
