oct 1, 1836 - Texas Independence (1836) Texas declared independence from Mexico in 1836, largely because the many U.S. migrants who had settled ther wanted to run their own affairs. In 1845 the United States accepted Texas as a new state against vigorous Mexican protest and moved to onsolidate its hold on the territory.
