jan 1, 1450 - Beginning of the Renaissance in Italy

Description:

1450 marked the start of a famous period in Italy, the Renaissance. After the Middle Ages, a time of very few advancements in science and art, Italy and other places in Europe began to progress again. Although it is believed that the Dark Ages perhaps were not so dark, it is true that during this time, not many advancements were made. Although, in the Renaissance Period, it was quite the opposite. The continent faced a sort of 'rebirth', where there was a rediscovery of art, literature and classical philosophy.

Many people thrived during this time, some of the most famous including Leonardo Da Vinci, Galileo, William Shakespeare and Dante. Leonardo was well known for his achievements during the Renaissance. The Mona Lisa was probably his most widely recognised piece, but he was also an architect, inventor and painter. William Shakespeare, probably the first person you would think of from this time produced hundreds of poems and plays that are studied over the world today. Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and Hamlet are just a few of his works, all considered to be some of the finest works in the English language.

In the Renaissance, Italy became a cultural centre of Europe and the period, as it was already wealthy and the third-largest country in the continent. It originally started in Florence which was an independent republic of Italy. This period of time continued until the 15th century in Italy, when war was ripping Europe apart. England, France and Spain all wanted to have control of the wealthy country. It was around this time when the Italian Renaissance ended.
