PEEPING TOM
Johnny Depp
Led Investigation
Description:
Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp launched his own private investigation into an on-set pervert he suspected was a voyeur, Daily Mail Online can reveal.
Kevin Thomas Roy, 38, an experienced assistant director, worked on 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' alongside the movie's main star Depp.
Roy has recently been sacked by Lionsgate while working on another film 'Allegiant' after it emerged he secretly recorded dozens of women by hiding spy cameras in bathrooms and movie trailers. Roy has pleaded no contest to invasion of privacy charges.
And Daily Mail Online has learned that Depp became suspicious of Roy's behavior on the Pirates' shoot in 2010 and asked his security detail to check him out.
Depp's staff conducted a criminal records check on Roy, but when it came up clean the actor was forced to drop the issue.
Nonetheless, rumors quickly spread about Roy, who ran a 'base camp' on the set, putting him in charge of all trailers, bathrooms and changing areas for the cast and crew.
Female stars of the film, released in May 2011, including leading ladies Penelope Cruz and Judi Dench may have been targeted by the accused pervert.
It wasn't until last year when Roy's wife Michelle went to the police about her husband's dirty secret that Depp's suspicions were confirmed.
A police search warrant described Roy as a 'prolific collector and producer of voyeuristic matter'.
Investigators believed Roy set up his cameras and recorded more than 40 videos and took 400 photos, including up-skirt shots at the Sherman Oaks Galleria, a Target store, and inside the bathroom at his own home.
The material was turned over to investigators by his wife Michelle Schrauwers, who has since divorced Roy.
Roy pleaded not guilty to the charges back in May, then entered a plea of 'no contest' in June to one count of illegally hiding a camera in a dressing room and recording moving and still images of actresses changing their clothes during a shoot for a Maserati commercial at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita.
He's been sentenced to three years summary probation and must attend a year-long sex-offender program, but he will not have to register as a sex offender.
And according to entertainment website Jezebel, Roy was sacked from his assistant director's job on new movie 'Allegiant'.
