Description:

The Alien and Sedition acts were passed by the Federalists in order to put an end to government opposition by the Republican party and limit individual rights. The acts were signed by John Adams and were officially passed in 1798. The Alien act deported foreigners and the Sedition act prohibited people from saying negative things about the government. These acts resulted in many people protesting that these laws were unconstitutional.
