jan 1, 1160 - ר׳ אברהם אבן דאוד – ספר הקבלה
Description:
1160 - ראשונים
As a response to the attacks from Karaites on the historical legitimacy of Judaism, ר׳ אברהם אבן דאוד traces מסורה in detail to ensure historical accuracy and counter the Karaite claims. His historical account picks off from where אגרת ר׳ שרירא גאון leaves off. Perhaps the most well-known anecdote from his telling explains the founding of the Spanish, Tunisian, and Egyptian Jewish communities through the story of the ארבה שבויים. His philosophical works were also deeply associated with ספר הקבלה.
About the Author: ר׳ אברהם אבן דאוד, or the ראב׳׳ד, was an astronomer, doctor, and philosopher who lived from 1110 - 1180. From Cordoba, he fled to Toledo in 1150 due to the conquest of the Almohades. He is assumed to have died as a martyr.
