אב׳׳ע is distinctive as a תורה commentary because for his distinctly highly rational approaches to understanding. His first commentary was on קהלת and was published in 1140. He completed his commentary on בראשית – דברים by 1145.

About the Author: אבן עזרא, or אב׳׳ע, lived from ~1090 - ~1165. Although he is from Tudela, he grew up in Cordoba. Little is known about his family life, but allegedly he had 5 children. Aside from being a commentator, he was a poet and a doctor. After 1137, he wandered looking for work as he was a poor man. He began to compose poetry and write his commentaries on the תורה on these travels.
