jan 1, 1038 - הלכות הרי׳׳ף

Description:

~1100 - ראשונים

הלכות הרי׳׳ף focuses on 24 מסכתות of practical applications of הלכה for his contemporary reader. The work excluded the אגדה, or discussion leading up to the decision, and just includes the פסק for clarity. This work was one of the “3 Pillars” upon which the בית יוסף based שולחן ערוך.

About the Author: Born near Fez, ר׳ יצחק אלפסי, or the רי׳׳ף, traveled to Kairuon to study under Babylonian rabbis רבינו חננאל and רבינו ניסים הגאון, associated with the גאונים, and ended up teaching that תורה to ר׳ יוסף מגאש and ר׳ יהודה הלוי, rabbis associated with the ראשונים. In this sense, the רי׳׳ף was regarded as a transitionary figure and his most famous work, הלכות הרי׳׳ף, reflects this as well through the relevance of הלכות in the changing times. He is also known for becoming the head of the ישיבה in Lucena at the end of his life, which ultimately solidified Torah study in Al-Andalus.
