jul 17, 1867 - Populist Party
Description:
Also known as the "People's Party", it was founded by poor farmers who wanted their ideas to be represented in politics. Their platform consisted of free silver coinage, plenty of paper money, a graduated income tax, and equality for everyone. The identity of their party was overshadowed by the Democratrs during the Election of 1896, where William Jennings Bryan, a populist, was adopted as the Democratic candidate.
