Description:
Alexander crosses the Hellespont into Asia Minor to begin his conquest of Persia. The first great conflict of note was this battle which occurred at the Granicus River. This was the first victory of Alexander the Great’s invasion of the Persian Empire, which established the Macedonians on enemy soil. It allowed Alexander to replenish his spent supplies and also encouraged some key Greek states to rebel against the Persians. This positioned the Macedonian army to invade deeper into Anatolia.
