Description:
From 3.6 to 2 million years ago, three species of Australopithecus were present: Australopithecus afarensis, Australopithecus africanus, and Australopithecus anamenis. Afarensis is the more well-known species of Australopithecus. The pelvis was short and bell-shaped for stabilization during bipedalism. The forearms of Australopithecus along with the fingers and toes. The fingers and toes were also somewhat curved. This suggests that Australopithecus did spend some time in the trees and some time on the ground. They also lived in mixed woodland and grassland environments. The canines also started to become smaller in size.
