oct 23, 1944 - Battle of Leyte Gulf
Description:
Since Japan still had control of the Philippines, the US had to reclaim their territory in order to show force. Once US fleets arrived, they were faced by Japanese fleets. From then on the battle was all naval and eventhough Japan had Kamikazes (planes with explosives), the US was still victorious. The battle ended due to the fact that the US trapped Japan in a straight and then used all their force. By the end of the battle, teh Japanese navy is almost destroyed and the Philippines is retaken by the US.
