jun 4, 1967 - Bill Russell
Description:
Bill Russell, NBA Legend and 11-time champion, was not afraid to voice his opinion during a time where it was very hard to do so. He and Muhammad Ali worked together to fight for racial equality. He stood with Ali when Ali refused to go fight in the Vietnam War on religious and racial grounds. Ali believed that Black people were disproportionately being sent to die. Russell’s ideas on racial inequality were still new at the time, and he brought attention to the race problem in the sports world.
